What Are Book Videos?
Book videos are the newest trend in marketing books. They
are generally 30 seconds to 2 minutes long, and serve as
advertisements for books that are coming to market. Book
videos have the ability to grab potential readers'
attention and emotion, go viral if well designed, and
generate buzz and excitement about your project. See our
Testimonials page for examples
of what book videos can do for your book.
KillerCon is a writer's convetion taking place in Las Vegas on
August 26-29, 2010. I had the opportunity to do this video as an
advertisement for them. This is a fun video that has an energy
which grabs your attention and doesn't let go until the final
title card... and by that time, you're hooked.
As usual, the score was the most important part,
but once I had that down, the images came naturally.
GOS Multimedia will be at KillerCon August 26 and 27. See you there!
Gleefully Macabre Tales is, as someone put it, a "gross-out
riot." I found it to be hysterically funny while being
utterly disturbing. Building a video for this book required a
certain amount of delicacy: I wanted to capture the visceral
nature of the stories along with the pervasive humor, but keep the
gore to an acceptable minimum. Plus, it was actually quite
difficult to find a suitably light but disturbing score and
pictures to match. In the end, I got the effect I wanted.
This video was challenging. As much excitement as there is for
zombies recently, finding really good images to use, as well as
an appropriate soundtrack, took some time. Also, the limitation
of the software necessitated using photoshop to create effects that
the rendering program wouldn't do, like title pans. I've since
learned how to trick the software into doing that, but I think it
looks much better the way I have it.
This trailer made video production seem easy (little did I know).
The images, copy and soundtrack came from the client, and all I
had to do was assemble it. The natural crecendo of the soundtrack
makes for a very satisfying conclusion for the video. And that
skull thing--I have yet to identify the species--gives the entire
experience a decidedly creepy feel.
Worlds Move, Time Calls Trailer 2
This is the second version of the book trailer I made for Worlds
Move, Time Calls by J.E. Booth. The first trailer
(found here)
was based on a 25 word synopsis, which was all I had available at the
time. Now that I had a chance to read some of the story, I had a
much better idea of the plot and characters, and so I was able to
put this together. Obviously, these trailers do not attempt to tell
the whole story (or even most of one plot line) but it does capture
the essence of the book in much finer detail.
